Marty W. McDonald, aged 60, son of the late Jeremiah McDonald and Caroline Chase McDonald passed away on June 20, 2008 from colon cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. McDonald graduated from New Bedford High School and Stonehill College where he served as senior class president for both schools.
After graduating college, Mr. McDonald began a 34-year teaching career at Dartmouth High School where he taught English and drama. He coached volleyball and baseball and was inducted into the Dartmouth High School Athletic Hall of Fame in May 2007. He also coached the Dartmouth American Legion baseball teams. Mr. McDonald was the drama director of the school's productions for 31 years. He was a charter member of the Penmanship Committee and held his colleagues and students with the highest regard and respect.
Marty loved baseball and spending time with his son analyzing the game and rooting for his beloved Red Sox. He would like to be remembered as a person who loved teaching and coaching young people and who always tried to do for others. He felt badly for anyone who didn't like the game of baseball as he/she was missing one of the greatest aspects of our American Culture.
He is survived by his wife and best friend Sharon and son Jeremy who was the light of his life. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Carol Restivo, his sisters-in-law, Linda Newman and her husband Bob, and Dianne Cerce and her husband Pat, and his brother-in-law, Alan Restivo and his wife Beverly. He truly enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, Julie Murphy, David Restivo, Matthew Cerce, and Genna Cerce.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, Rochester. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford.
