Jane Willcox Matthews, 88, of Beaufort, South Carolina, died Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Summit Place in Beaufort.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 24, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Matthews was born January 27, 1920, in Jacksonville, Georgia to the late Robert and Alberta Dowdy Willcox. She and her late husband, P. Sims Matthews, moved to Sumter, S.C. in 1962 from Fitzgerald. For the past two years she had made home in Beaufort. She was a homemaker and former employee of Sears Roebuck & Co. and Fitzgerald Water Light and Bond Commission. Mrs. Matthews was a 1937 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. She was a member of the Methodist Faith and former member of Central United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Matthews is survived by two daughters: Frances Matthews of Beaufort, S.C. and Virginia Matthews of Kenya, Africa. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
