Obituary

Edward M. Brooks, of Milford, New Hampshire and formerly a longtime resident of Charlestown, died on Thursday June 19, 2008 at The Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, New Hampshire following a lengthy illness. He was 80 years old.

Ed was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown, where he attended Boston Public Schools. Ed served in the United States Navy during World War 2. He worked for many years on the Boston Waterfront as a longshoreman in the shipping industry. He was a member of The International Longshoreman's Union Local # 799. Following his retirement from the longshoreman's union, Ed became a truck driver and was a member of The Teamsters Union Local # 25.

Ed is the beloved husband of Lois (Ulrich) and the late Grace (Grows) Brooks. He is the loving father of Thomas Brooks and his wife Kathleen of Alfred, Maine., Keith Brooks and his wife Kristin of Sutton, N.H., Deborah Langone and her husband Boston Firefighter Stephen of West Roxbury, Nancy Brooks and her partner Maura Meagher of Jamaica Plain, Lynne Smith and her husband Kevin of Charlestown, Pamela Gagnon and her husband John of Texas, Diane Smith and her husband Bruce of New Hampshire and Scott Brooks and his wife Allison of Wilmington. He is the loving grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved son of the late Alonzo Brooks and Beatrice Brooks. He is the devoted brother of Alonzo Brooks Jr, Helen Peckham, Beatrice LaPlante, Frank Brooks and the late Eva, Earle, Robert and Richard Brooks.

Ed's Funeral will be held on Tuesday June 24, 2008 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Service in St. John's Episcopal Church, 26 Devens St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Monday June 23, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
