Obituary

Joseph E. Carney Jr. age 70 of Salem, NH, passed away March 9, 2003 at the Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA after a long illness.

He was born in Lawrence, MA on October 16, 1932, and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Carney of Lawrence, MA.

Mr. Carney was a prominent figure in the Horse and Dog Racing Industry. He enjoyed many outdoor hobbies including golfing, fishing, and hunting. He was a two time PHRF Crusing Division New England Champion Yachtsman on his beloved Boat “Talaria”.

He was an accomplished musician and was also known for his love of singing. He was a graduate of VMI (Virginia Military Institute) with a BA in History, and served his country as a First Lieutenant in the Korean War.

He was a loving husband, devoted father, and prod grandfather.

He was predeceased by a brother Hugh D. Carney

He is survived by his wife Jill Carney of Salem, NH

3 Daughters: Kathleen & her husband Timothy Brothers Mary & her husband Michael Gering Ellen Marie Carney

2 Sons: Joseph E. Carney III James P Carney

2 Brothers: Dr. Thomas F. Carney Daniel Carney

2 Sisters: Joan O’Donnell Mrs. Robert Linnehan

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 AM at Mary Queen of Peace Church, Lawrence, Road, Salem, NH. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday for 3-5 & 7-9 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, NH.
