TEWKSBURY - Joseph A. Lemire, a Tewksbury resident for the past five decades, died peacefully, Friday morning, June 20, at his Tewksbury home, from an apparent heart attack. He was the husband of the late Virginia N. (Dingley) Lemire, who died in 1999.
He was born in Maine, December 30, 1924, one of nine children of the late Anthony Joseph and Dorcas (Greenlaw) Lemire. He was the last surviving sibling of his family.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Force during WW 2, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, in the Philippines. He was awarded numerous decorations and commendations, but was most proud to possess the Good Conduct Medal.
In his earlier years, he worked as an auto body mechanic and automobile painter, at Kelly's Garage in Tewksbury. He later retired from the Turbine Division of General Electric's Riverworks Plant in Lynn.
He was a member of the Tewksbury Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8164, the American Legion, Tewksbury Post 259, and a former member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge, 2070.
He is survived by three daughters, Marjorie and her husband Arthur Fotino Jr., of Las Vegas, NV, Diana Fleury of Tewksbury, Judith and her husband Gary Landers of Winthrop; eight grandchildren, Lisa Sakurai and Lori Cole both of Hampton, NH, Joseph Hubbard, Crystal DeMayo, and Tyler Strawhecker all of Winthrop, Joseph and Charles Fleury both of Tewksbury, Cyndle Strawhecker of NY; eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also father of the late Joey Lemire, who died in 1955.

His funeral was held Tuesday, June 24, in the funeral home. Burial with Air Force Honors followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Heart Assn. 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated.
