Gerard R. “Gerry” Parent, 83, formerly of Flat St., Cumberland, died Tuesday at St. Antoine Residence. He was the husband of the late Annette R. (Sarreault) Parent.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Dominic and Alice (Villiard) Parent. Mr. Parent spent his early years residing in Sorel, P.Q. Canada, before returning to the Woonsocket area as a young man. Over the years he resided in Woonsocket, Lincoln, North Smithfield, Plainville, and Cumberland.
Mr. Parent was employed as an auto body repairman for Dunn Ford in Cranston, and was a manager for Normandin Chevrolet body shop in Woonsocket. He also worked as an insurance adjuster for GP Claims Service.
Gerry was a very proficient carpenter and throughout his life he enjoyed crafting and restoring furniture and numerous other items. He personally built several of the homes in which he resided.
Gerry was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and treasured spending time with his family.
He is survived by three daughters, Jo-Ann Clancy, and her fiancé John Burrows, of Worcester, MA., Barbara Parent, of Chatham, MA., and Patricia McGee, and her husband Stephen, of North Kingstown. A sister, Irene Ennis, of Johnston, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Maurice Parent.
His funeral will be Friday at 9:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 71 Central St., Manville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St., Manville. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Friday from 8:30 -9:30 am prior to Mass.
