Obituary

Roy G. Backstrom, 81, of Worcester, passed away June 14th at Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Backstrom was a native of Worcester, grew up in Holden, graduated from Boy's Trade School of Worcester and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He attended Vesper George School of Art in Boston. Mr. Backstrom worked as a graphic artist in New York City and Ad Service of Worcester for 25 years.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Virginia M. (Klosek) Backstrom; their daughter, Lee Ann (Backstrom) Baggott, MD and son-in-law Brian Baggott, MD; their daughters, Erin and Tara Baggott of Manchester, ME; his son, Roy G. Backstrom Jr.; daughter-in-law, Martha Backstrom, and their children Lee Marie Backstrom and Roy G. Backstrom III of Sterling, MA.

Roy was a loyal Red Sox fan, enjoying games at home and in Ft. Myers, FL. He enjoyed wood carving, and was a member and good friend of the Woodchucks of West Boylston Senior Center. He exhibited his art at the Jewish Community Center of Worcester.

Services will be held Wednesday June 18th at 10:00 AM at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, Worcester. Calling hours will be from 9 AM to 10 AM. Burial will follow immediately after the 10:00 AM service at the All Faith Cemetery in Worcester. Donations in Roy's memory may be made to the American Lung Association of Massachusetts.
