WORCESTER___Eileen (Matejko) Balcewicz, 83, of Worcester, died Sunday June 15, 2008 in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.
She leaves her loving husband of 64 years, Leo Balcewicz, a son, Leo Balcewicz, Jr, of Worcester; three daughters, Eileen Dunn and her husband Richard of Holden; Leona (Kann) Anderson and her husband Carl of Webster and Stephanie Hicks and her husband James of Worcester; eleven grandchildren, David, Arthur Jr, L. Caroline, Debbie, Theresa, Stephanie, Carolyn, Mercedes, James Jr, Nicole and Joshua, thirteen great-granchildren and nephews and nieces. Another son, John Balcewicz died in 1959. She was born in Farnumsville, a daughter of Edmund and Katherine (Falish) Matejko and has lived in Worcester for most of her life.
Mrs. Balcewicz was a stitcher many years and worked for Davey’s Handbag Co. and later for Micro Networks before retiring in 1975. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, the Polish National Alliance and the Jolly Jills singing group. Eileen most loved her family and church. She also enjoyed tatting, stitching, crocheting, polka dancing and liked to garden and travel.
The funeral will be held on Thursday June 19, 2008 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday June 18, 2008 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church Memorial Fund, 34 Ward Street, Worcester, Ma., 01610.
