
Dennis L. Holden
...Korean War Navy Veteran; 75
TEWKSBURY - Dennis L. Holden, age 75, a Navy Veteran of the Korean War,
died Saturday, June 14, at Mass General Hospital, following a brief illness. He
was the husband of Elizabeth A. (Fox) Holden, who died in 1995.
He was born in Aberdeen, Maryland, on February 21, 1933, a son of the late
Howard and Dorothy (Francis) Holden. He was raised in Maryland, and
graduated from the Hargrave Military Academy. He entered into the Navy, and
served honorably aboard the USS Cogswell during the Korean War.
Upon discahrge, he married his beloved "Betty" and moved to Boston. He then
moved his family to Tewksbury in 1955, where he remained until 1998 when he
relocated to St. Augustine, Fla. Missing his family he returned home to
Tewksbury in 2006.
He retired from the Ironworkers, Local #351 in Lawrence.
He was a life member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge # 2070, the
Tewksbury Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 8164, and the Tewksbury Disabled
American Veterans, Post 110. He was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed all the
professional Boston sports teams. He spent many summers aboard his boat
named the HoldenOn.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Eleanor (Milner)
Holden of Windham, ME; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda L. McAvoy, R.N.
and her husband Edward of Tewksbury, and Elizabeth A. Geoffroy of Haverhill;
six grandchildren, Gregory, Lindsay, and Edward Holden, Lauren and Kelsey
McAvoy, and Elizabeth Geoffroy; three great grandsons, Sebastian, Noah and
Aidan. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His funeral was held Wednesday June 18, in the funeral home. Burial was at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the N.E. Hemophilia Association 347 Washington St. Suite 402
