Obituary

James Henry Clyburn, Sr., 80, of Chula died Friday, June 13, 2008, at Tift Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2008, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton's First Baptist Church. Dr. Wayne Roe, Dr. W. Ches Smith, III and Rev. Paul Thomas will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Julian Cannon, George Bailey, Charles Webb, Herb Womack, Whit Whitfield and Zack Matthews will serve as pallbearers. Deacons of Tifton's First Baptist Church and the care-givers at Tift Health Care will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 15, 2008, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Clyburn was born on March 30, 1928 in Camden, South Carolina and was the son of Stephen Louis Clyburn and Sara Lewis Clyburn, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Samples Clyburn; two sons, Morgan Clyburn and Tom Clyburn; one brother; and one sister. He was the owner and operator of Clyburn and Sons/City County Service Company and, for 40 years, supplied various City and County Government offices in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina with supplies. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, where he served on the USS William R. Rush. He was a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon; a member of the Gideon Society, the Elk's Club, the VFW and the Springhill Country Club. He held a real estate broker's license and was owner of Morgan Properties.

Mr. Clyburn is survived by his wife, Faye B. Clyburn of Chula; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Henry and Beverly Clyburn of Adel and Edward Clyburn of Ashburn; three step-sons and their wives, James and Kathy Knowles of Germantown, Tennessee, Kris and Shanna Knowles of Tifton, and Scott and Mandi Knowles of Tifton; one step-daughter and her husband, Kandy and Buddy Phillips of Tifton; three grandchildren, Chris and Joshua Clyburn, both of Atlanta, and Chloe Clyburn of Adel; four step grandchildren, Pierce and Emma Knowles of Germantown, Tennessee, Madison and Christopher Phillips, both of Tifton, and Chloe Clyburn of Adel; one great granddaughter, Olivia Clyburn of Atlanta; one niece; and one nephew.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Forward in Faith Building Campaign at Tifton's First Baptist Church.
