Obituary

DRACUT - Andrew Daileanes 59, a long time Dracut resident, died after a battle with cancer Thursday morning at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Joanne M. (Piekarski) Daileanes with whom he shared 39 years of marriage.

Born in Lowell on January 19, 1949, he was the son of the late John K. and Aphrodite (Dabilis) Daileanes. He received his early education in the Lowell school system and was a graduate of Dracut High School class of 1966.

Mr. Daileanes had been employed for many years by the former New England Telephone and at the time of his retirement in 1996 the company was better known as Nynex. Following his retirement he went to work for Sprint PCS building the cell phone network around the country. Most recently he was employed as the East Coast Director of Operations by Tyco Electronics based in Mesquite, TX.

An avid sports enthusiast, Mr. Daileanes enjoyed all sporting events. In his early years he was a Golden Gloves Boxer and participated in the 1969 New England Finals. Additionally when his children were young he coached Dracut Pop Warner Football as well as coaching Dracut Senior League Baseball.

Mr. Daileanes was a member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell and was a member of the Lowell B.P.O.E. Lodge 87.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Kerry and Liam Sullivan of Lowell; two sons and daughters-in-law John and Jen Daileanes of Amesbury and Bill and Lynne Daileanes of Tewksbury; six grandchildren Shelby, Aislinn and Ciara Sullivan of Lowell, Sydney and Andrew Daileanes of Amesbury and Michael Daileanes of Tewksbury; one brother and sister-in-law Charles and Sandra Daileanes of Litchfield, NH; his mother-in-law Claire Piekarski of Boynton Beach, FL and Hampton Beach, NH: and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Sunday from 4 until 8 PM. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Monday at 11 AM followed by his Funeral Service at 12 noon in the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell. Interment in Oakland Cemetery, Dracut. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to either Holy Trinity Church Lewis St., Lowell, MA 01850 or to Merrimack Valley Hospice 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01843.
