NEW BEDFORD — Frances E. Lyman, a lifelong community resident, daughter of the late Robert G. and Nannie L. (Moore) Lyman, died peacefully on Wednesday June 11, 2008, at the age of 97 years.
Miss Lyman was predeceased by older brothers Robert G. Lyman and his wife Grace and Harold K. Lyman and his wife Lillian.
Frances was born in South Dartmouth and attended Bridgewater State College where she received her teaching degree. She taught grades five through eight at several New Bedford schools including the Acushnet Ave., Donaghy, Cook, and Lincoln and 24 years at Mt. Pleasant.
She was a member of Centre Trinity United Methodist Church and active in all facets of church organizations. She was a member and volunteer of St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary for many years, a volunteer with Market Ministries, and a member of Massachusetts and Bristol County Teacher's Associations.
Frances is survived by her nephew, Robert K. Lyman and his wife, Carla of Berkley and several grand nieces and grand nephews, Robert D. K. Lyman and his partner Christa, Craig S. Lyman, Linda A. Benway and Patricia M. Lyman, all of Vermont and Jared R. Lyman and Carl R. Lyman of Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Center Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 473 County St., New Bedford, MA 02740. Her funeral service will take place on Monday, June 16th at 10:30 A.M., in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford with burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery
