Obituary

FRAMINGHAM—John Warren Hanson 72, of Framingham, and a former resident of Franklin and Mansfield, died Wednesday June 11, 2008 at the Carlyle House Nursing Home in Framingham following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson ’s disease. He was the husband of Marylyn (Haney) Rands of Franklin.
Born May 4, 1936 in Cowansville, Quebec Canada, a son of the late Roland A. and Frances (Brown) Hanson, he lived in Canada for a short time before settling in Whitinsville, Ma with his family.
He was educated in Whitinsville schools, and continued his education at Worcester Tech. and Northeastern University and graduated from both with degrees in engineering and management. Mr. Hanson retired in April 2000 from Raytheon Company after 38 years of service. His work included management positions on the SPSS49 Radar, the Patriot Missile System, and the ROTHR “over-the-horizon-radar”.
Mr. Hanson proudly served in the United States Air Force for six years he attained the rank of staff sergeant and was active during the Cuban Missile Crisis. During his time in the Air Force he was stationed in Hawaii and on Aniwetok Island as well as stateside locations.
He was a member of the Association of Private Pilots and was a former member of the Mansfield Lions Club.
In addition to being an avid pilot his interest included, sailing, traveling, camping and canoeing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons William Hanson of Wrentham and Hugh Hanson of Mansfield, and two grandchildren Kyle Hanson and Marissa Hanson both of Wrentham. Also surviving are three stepchildren Jerry Spangler of Ogden, UT, Jalene Greer of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Judy Cigler of Middleton, Idaho and nine step grandchildren: Jeanette Walton, Jessica, Samantha, Bryan and Dylan Spangler, Angela Douglas, Melisa Cigler-Wing, Randi Meredith and Tiffany Walker.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service on Monday June 16, 2008 at 10AM in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin., (www.franklinfuneral.com), with Rev. Jaye Moore Chaplin of Beacon Hospice will officiate.
Interment is private.
