
Phoebe D.(Shea) (Smith) Hallquist, 91, of East Bridgewater , died Thursday June 12th in the Life Care Center in West Bridgewater, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late John Henry Smith and for 50 years the late Francis Hallquist. Phoebe was born in New York, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Phoebe A. (Dodge) Shea .She grew up in Holbrook and a graduate of Holbrook High School Class of 1934.She has been a resident of East Bridgewater and a member of the St. John’s Church for 60 years, also a member of the Massachusetts Catholic Women Guild, the East Bridgewater Garden Club, Visiting Nurse Assoc., Women’s Club and the Old colony Power Squadron Auxiliary Club. During WWII she worked as a machinist at the Boston Gear Works in Quincy, she also was a psychiatric nurse in a Boston Hospital and before retirement she worked in the East Bridgewater Pharmacy as a Clerk.
She is survived by her two daughters, Joan Elizabeth ( Smith)( Hallquist) Sheeran of Vermont and Barbara Ann (Hallquist) Allen of East Bridgewater, Her grandchildren Julie Regimbal of Vermont, Jessica Gammons of Abington, her great- grandchildren , Elizabeth and Richard Regimbal, and Henry Colby,her sister Barbara ( Shea)(Kinnard) Boertje of CA., a special niece Evelyn Sprague and many others nieces and nephews.she was also the sister of the late Evelyn ( Shea) Sprague.
Her services will be held Monday June 16th at 9:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rt 58 at the Rotary circle) Whitman, MA., followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM in the St. John’s Church in East Bridgewater, burial will be in the, MA V.A. National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:45PM.Visitation will be held on Sunday , June 15th from 4:00-8:00 PM.
