Obituary

BEVERLY - Matthew D’Allesandro, 87, of Danvers, husband of the late Antoinette (Grocki) D’Allesandro, died Wednesday morning, June 11, 2008 at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Dominico and Concetta (Rizzacarco) D’Allesandro. A resident of Beverly for most of his life, he lived in Salisbury for several years until moving to Danvers in 2002.

An Army veteran of WWII, he served in the European African Middle Eastern theaters with Company B, 320th Engineering Battalion and attained the rank of PFC.

Prior to his retirement in the mid 1980's, he was employed for 33 years at the United Shoe Machinery Corporation in Beverly. In his retirement years, he worked at the Myopia Golf Club.

Matt was a member of the Italian Community Center in Beverly and the Danvers Council on Aging..

He is survived by one son, Philip D’Allesandro of Newburyport, one daughter & son-in-law, Ellen & David Frederick of Danvers and with whom he resided, four grandchildren, Michael Frederick of Danvers, Lindsay & her husband John Semas of N. Dighton, Jennifer D’Allesandro & Deanna D’Allesandro, both of Nashua, NH, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his longtime companion, Margaret Jones and three brothers, Anthony, Buster and Nick D’Allesandro.

His funeral service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 7:45 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by funeral Mass at 9 am at the St. Richard’s Church, Danvers. Visiting hours are Friday evening, 6 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Friends of the Danvers Council on Aging, 25 Stone St., Danvers, MA 01923.
