Russell B. Strout, of Winchester Mass. and Milbridge Maine -- After a valiant, one-year battle with cancer, Russell, 89, peacefully passed away June 11, 2008, at Winchester Hospital with this family by his side. Born Nov. 28, 1918 in Milbridge, he was the son of Alton E. Strout of Milbridge and Mary L. Brown Strout of New London, Conn. Surviving are his wife, Anne Marie (Telfer) and three sons: Jeffrey E. Strout and his wife Kathleen of Bangor; Daniel T. Strout and his wife Joyce of South Barrington, Ill., and Eric E. Strout of Mercerville, N.J. Mr. Strout also leaves four granddaughters: Jennifer Dickinson of Norway, Maine; Courtney Strout of Mercerville, N.J.; Kelley Strout of Houston, Texas, and Elizabeth Strout of Providence, R.I. He also leaves two great granddaughters, Ashley and Chelsea Dickinson of Norway, Maine as well as a niece, Daphne Bradford of Marblehead, Mass., and a nephew Fred Strout of Mesa, Ariz., and Milbridge, Maine. He was pre-deceased by his half-brother Elliott.
Mr. Strout was a devoted family man and loving husband. He and Marie have enjoyed 64 years of marriage. He is a retired mechanical engineer, responsible for many innovative packaging processes for the food industry. A member of Aleppo Temple Shrine, Mr. Strout was devoted to helping the causes which that organization supported, especially the Shriners Hospital for Children and the Shriners Circus.
A 60-year resident of Winchester, Russell and his wife built the family home which they have lived in for those 60 years. They were committed to and involved with a number of charitable groups in Winchester such as the En Ka Society and the Jenks Center. Mr. Strout was also a Life Deacon in the Winchester Congregational Church.
His home town of Milbridge always held a special place in his heart, and he and Marie and their sons built a home on family property where they hosted many summer gatherings. Members of the Petit Manan Yacht Club, they enjoyed sailing and motoring in their Grady White, but they especially loved entertaining, being with friends and sharing hundreds of tall tales of growing up in this seaside community. They supported the Milbridge Historical Society as well as the Town of Milbridge Library.
A graveside service and interment will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge, Saturday, June 14, at 2 p.m. led by Pastor Eric Kelly of Milbridge Congregational Church. A celebration of life will take place on June 20 at 1:30 p.m. in Winchester at the Winchester Congregational Church on the Common. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the En Ka Society of Winchester, 1037 Main St., or the charity of their choice.
