Jane Rita (Jones) Smart died on June 10th at her home in Mystic.
She was born August 16, 1930 in New Britain, CT the daughter of James Francis and Louise Footer Jones. She attended schools in Bath, ME and graduated from Morse High School in 1947.
She is survived by her husband, Morris L. Smart whom she married on October 28, 1950 at St. Mary’s Church in Bath, ME.
She was employed in the business office of New England Telephone and Telegraph in Maine. She retired from Twenty-Third Publications in Mystic after 20 years of service.
She and Morris loved to travel and made several cross-country trips in addition to their travels around the world. She was a member of St. Mary’s Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton.
Jane is also survived by five children, Janice Reagan of North Stonington, Judith Bennett of Preston, Jeffrey Smart of Groton, Daniel Smart of Stonington, and Nicholas Smart of Preston. Jane took great delight in her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Bette) Serrot of Fullerton, CA and was predeceased by her brother, Edward Jones of Bath, ME.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday from 5-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69, Groton Long Point Rd, Groton on Friday at 1:30pm. Fr. Brian Romanowski, Pastor of St. Patrick Church, Mystic will be celebrant. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
