Obituary

DARTMOUTH — C. Eric Lindell died early Saturday morning one week before his ninetieth birthday at his home in Dartmouth. His death followed a long period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Lillian (Shaw) Lindell.

Eric, the son of Carl A. and Alice (Halliwell) Lindell, was born in Newport, R.I. in 1918. He graduated from Bates College in 1940. After serving in the U.S. Army in World War II he returned to this area and settled in New Bedford. Many will remember him as resident manager, manufacturing partner, and vice president of Fairhaven Corporation in New Bedford's north end.

However, most will remember him as a committed citizen and community volunteer whose interests spanned a vast range of community organizations and commitments that received generous contributions of his time, his limited wealth his unprecedented experience and his impassioned intelligence.

His firm conviction that "Your mission is here and now" and "Love is the only real adventure" kept his volunteerism and creativity alive well into his early eighties.

Eric is survived by two sons, Craig who lives in Dartmouth and Carl who lives in Atlanta Georgia and four grandchildren, Eric, Cara, Joshua, and Yun Lee.

Arrangements are being made for open service to celebrate and remember Eric's life on Friday evening, June 27th, at the Unitarian Church on Union Street from 4:30 to 6:30. A reception will be held at the Wamsutta Club from 5:30 to 8:30. The community is welcome to come as they are to both.

Contributions in remembrance of him are being received by the community foundation.
