Mary L. Silva, 79, of New Bedford died March 6, 2003 at Sippican Healthcare Center after a long illness.
She was the companion of Rick Ferreira of New Bedford, and daughter of the late Joaquin and Leopoldina (Lomba) Silva.
Miss Silva was born in Fairhaven and lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in New Bedford.
Miss Silva was volunteer in the Foster Grandmother program at the Hathaway School in New Bedford. She was previously employed at Cornell-Dublier for many years.
She enjoyed cooking and was a kind and generous person who was loved by many.
Survivors include her companion; 2 daughters, Claire Rezendes, and her husband Louie, of Marion, and Linda Andrade of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Norman Silva and Edward Silva, both of New Bedford; 4 sisters, Louise Correia, Alice Andrews, Lillian Barros and Rose Pereira, all of New Bedford; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Olivia Costa, Joseph Silva, Henry Silva, John Silva, Arthur Silva, Daniel Silva, Joaquin Silva, Elsie Santos and Dorothy Silva.
