WORCESTER – Mr. Vincent “Vinny” Sclamo, 89, passed away Saturday June 7 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Vinny is survived by his wife Carol(Grimaldi) Sclamo of Worcester, two brothers, Joseph Sclamo and Louis Sclamo both of Worcester; two brother in laws, Raymond Grimaldo of Shrewsbury, William Grimaldo of Worcester; and many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Samuel, Vito, and Pasquale Sclamo, and sisters, Mary Andolina and Pauline Davis.
A lifelong resident of Worcester, born November 27, 1918 in Worcester, Massachusetts a son of the late Pasquale and Louise(Nozzolillo) Sclamo. Vinny was educated through the Worcester Schools. He married his wife with whom he recently celebrated his 63rd anniversary on June 2, 2008, Mrs. Carol (Grimaldi) Sclamo in 1945
Vinny worked 50 years for Bell Co. and later for Wyman Gordon in Grafton,Ma. up until his retirement. A sports enthusiast all his life he loved to golf and was very involved throughout the Worcester area for the area high schools and Holy Cross College helping out with game day events.
He played semi-pro baseball for many years, known for his blazing speed on the base paths and on the track.
Vinny was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel- St Ann Church were he was a dedicated parishioner helping over the years with the bizarres, dances and festivals.
His other memberships included Green Hill Golf Course, the Holy Name Society, the Greendale YMCA, the Froshian Club, the Eastside Improvement Club, and the Italian American Veterans Post 3.
His funeral will be held Tuesday June 10th from the FAZIO FUNERAL HOME, 9 Branch St. Worcester with a Funeral Mass at 10:30a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church.
