LOWELL - Mary A. (Koyutis) Romanauskas, 91, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Sunday June 8th, at her home. She was the wife of the late Vytolt Romanauskas who died in 1986.
She was born in Lowell on September 18, 1916, and was a daughter of the late William and Stella (Mockas) Koyutis. She attended Lowell schools.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Romanauskas, was employed for 32 years as a book binder by Courier Citizen in Lowell. During that time she was also employed for many years as a waitress at the D.L.K.V. Lithuanian Club in Lowell.
In her free time she enjoyed shopping, playing bingo, collecting dolls, needlework, seamstress work, and playing cards with her sister Julia and her cousin Emily. She was always known for wearing fashionable hats. She also was an excellent painter and was awarded a scholarship for her work. Earlier in her life she enjoyed playing piano and was a student of the late Jack Payne. She also studied voice under Miss Jennings. She was crowned Miss Lowell in 1932.
Mrs. Romanauskas was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and the former St. Joseph Lithuanian Church, both in Lowell. She was a member the Ladies Sodality of St. Joseph Lithuanian Church, a member and past president of the D.L.K.V. Lithuanian Club's Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the International Institute of Lowell.
She was very active in Lithuanian cultural affairs and participated in the Lowell Folk Festival since its inception in 1990.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Robert and Elaine Romanauskas of Lowell; two daughters and sons-in-law Nyola and John Vaillancourt of Groton, and Ramona and Paul Kosciolek of Lowell; seven grandchildren Mark Vaillancourt and his wife Terisa of Hamilton, VA, Renee Lantz and her husband Eric of Tyngsboro, Erik Vaillancourt and his wife Lisa of San Jose, CA, Kurt Vaillancourt and his wife Denise of Morgan Hills, CA, Alexander Romanauskas and his wife Lauren of Londonderry, NH, Jeffrey Romanauskas of Lowell, and Leslie Romanauskas of Lowell; twelve great grandchildren; a brother Joseph Koyutis of Dunstable; a sister Julia Bendzewicz of Lowell; a brother-in-law Edward Romanauskas and his wife Viktorija of Kaunas, Lithuania; and several nieces nephews, and cousins, especially Emily Grondine of Dracut, and Mary Koyutis of Nashua.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 AM, followed by her Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell. Burial St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
