Obituary

Armando M. Ramos, 88, of Hampstead, NH, died Saturday, June 7, 2008 in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry, NH. Mr. Ramos was born in Lisbon, Portugal on April 8, 1920, a son of the late Manuel and Adelia (Ausely) Ramos. He was a resident of Hampstead for the past eight years. He came to the United States when he was 9 years old and grew up in Boston’s South End. Mr. Ramos met his wife in Medford, MA. He joined the Merchant Marines and served from WWII in Normandy all the way to the Iraqi war in the Gulf. He traveled the world extensively. Mr. Ramos was a member of the National Maritime Union. He enjoyed playing cards, but more importantly, enjoyed his family, children and grandchildren as well as life thoroughly. He did it “his way.”

He is survived by nine children, Robert Ramos of Nashua, NH, Linda Sharritts of Virginia, Armando Ramos, Jr. of Brockton, MA, Steven Ramos of Brockton, Donna Romaine of Marshfield, MA, Michael Ramos of Hampstead, Julie Riley of Whitman, MA, Lori Elfman of Bridgewater, MA and John Ramos of Salem, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a sister, Babe Ramos of Somerville, MA. He was predeceased by his wife, Adeline (Capua) Ramos in 1971, a son, Rodney Ramos as well as brothers and sisters.

There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a memorial funeral mass was celebrated 11:00am Wednesday, June 11, 2008 in St. Brendan’s Church, 589 Gallivan Blvd., Dorchester, MA. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford, MA. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01710.
