Albert E. Shields, 89, of Dartmouth passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. He was husband of the late Evangeline (DeMello) Shields.
Born in Pittsylvania, VA, son of the late Chesley H. and Sallie M. (Shelton) Shields, he had lived in Dartmouth for most of his life. Prior to retirement, he worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in New Bedford for 37 years. Mr. Shields was a contributor to the D.A.V. and the National V.F.W. He enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Survivors include a son: Gary C. Shields and his wife Sharon of Westport; 2 sisters: Catharine Guthrie of Silver Springs, MD and Elizabeth Holton of GA; 3 grandchildren: Mark A. Shields of Dartmouth, Aaron B. Shields of Seekonk and Colleen A. Potter of Westport; 3 great granddaughters: Mariah Shields, Brooke E. Potter and Victoria L. Shields; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Sam Shields, Marie Barnes, Virginia Long and Pauline Wood.
Graveside services to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Rural Cemetery, New Bedford at 10:30 A.M.
