Obituary

GLOUCESTER - Glenda (Peckham) Brown, loving wife, mother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 65.
She was born in Littleton, New Hampshire on September 15, 1942, to the late Bertha (Stewart) Peckham (Grassett) and the late Walter Peckham.
Mrs. Brown was educated in Gloucester schools and graduated with an associate’s degree from North Shore Community College. She worked for 20 years as a respiratory therapist at Salem Hospital where she cared for thousands of patients. She was loved and admired by her colleagues as a dedicated caregiver, mentor and friend. Mrs. Brown continued performing the work that she loved until just two weeks before her death.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gilbert Brown, Jr., with whom she traveled extensively. Recent trips included Alaska, Washington, California and Idaho. They also enjoyed spending time each summer in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and each winter in Key West, Florida, both favorite fishing destinations.
Mrs. Brown was an avid collector of antiques, and enjoyed searching for treasures at yard sales and antique auctions. She also loved musical theater, and frequently attended performances at the North Shore Music Theater and at theaters in Boston and New York. In addition to travels with her husband, she enjoyed vacationing regularly with her sisters Isabelle and Alice, with whom she visited San Antonio, Las Vegas and London.
She is also survived by her daughter, Katherine Brown and her husband Bernard Taylor, Sr. of Dover, New Hampshire; her son, Alan Everett Brown and his wife Rebecca Swearingen of Newburyport; her sister, Isabelle Johnson and her husband George of Gloucester; her sister, Alice Hunt and her husband Fred of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire; her sister, Mary Muise of Beverly; her brother, Jerry Peckham and his wife Linda of Rockport; her step-mother, Aldene Peckham of Gloucester; her half sister, Arene Daniels and her husband Kerry of Gloucester; her half brother, Albert Peckham and his wife Heidi of Gloucester; her half brother, Walter Peckham and his wife Courtney of Gloucester; her brother-in-law, Ronald Brown and his wife Geraldine of Hyannis; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Mrs. Brown was particularly fond of her niece, Sandra Santos and her family of Gloucester.
ARRANGEMENTS: There are no visiting hours. Burial will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Brown’s name to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 LBJ Fwy., Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
