Obituary

Robert L. Olson, 72, of 7 Ridgewood Drive, Auburn and East Harwich, died Monday, March 3, in the University of Massachusetts/Memorial Campus Medical Center.

He leaves his wife of 44 years, Muriel E. (Storms) Olson, two sons, Mark Olson of Danvers; and Keith Olson of Norfolk; a daughter, Cindy Olson of Bemidji, MN; a sister, Betty M. Garabedian of Douglas; and 2 grandchildren.

Mr. Olson was born in Auburn, son of Henry L. and Marie A. (Holquist) Olson lived here all his life.

He was a graduate of Auburn High School, Becker Jr. College, and Clark University where he received a degree in Business Administration. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War serving with the Quarter Masters Corps.Mr. Olson was Vice President and Controller for State Mutual Life, where he worked for 33 years, retiring in 1991. He also worked part-time for Harbro Auto Sales and Service of Whitinsville.Mr. Olson was a member of Belmont Street Baptist Church where he served on and was former Chairman of the Board of Elders; he was a former Treasurer of the church, was a former Sunday School Teacher and also taught the Adult Bible Class. He was the former Treasurer of the Auburn District Nursing Association. He was an enthusiastic Classic Car fan and enjoyed boating and fishing.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 7, at 10:00 am in Belmont Street Baptist Church, 25 Belmont Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. Calling hours will be Thursday, March 6, from 5-8pm in Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester.Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made to Belmont Street Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 25 Belmont Street, Worcester 01605 or to the Auburn District Nursing Association, 191 Pakachoag Street, Auburn, Ma, 01501.
