Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Janet Celia (Purdy) Dulong, 91, died peacefully in the care and comfort of staff at Seacoast Nursing and Retirement Center, Friday, May 30, 2008. She was predeceased April 1, 2008 by her husband of sixty-five years, Stanley N. Dulong.
Born in Boston on October 3, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Sidney Lewis Purdy and Annie Mary (Newbold) Purdy. She attended schools in Somerville and worked until her marriage at Pacific Mills in Boston. She also worked for a short time at the Hammond Castle in Magnolia. Janet was a wonderful seamstress and quilter. She was a member of the Gloucester United Methodist Church, Riverdale, where she served as treasurer for a number of years.
She is survived by her sister, Edith J. Purdy of Rockport, four daughters, Leslie “Penny” Sinclair and her husband, Frank of Gloucester, Jayne Dulong of Gloucester, Paige Parisi and her husband, Joe of Florida and Lee Sylva and her husband, Michael of Florida, a son, Craig Dulong and his wife, “Sash” Ludwig of Gloucester, three grandchildren, Holly Wieckowski and her husband, Steve, Kristin Murray and her husband, Matt and Ben Dulong all of Gloucester and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Logan Wieckowski both of Gloucester.
A celebration of Janet and Stan’s life is planned for Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 3 p.m. at the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center, 9 Harbor Loop, Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Janet’s memory to the “Friends of Seacoast” c/o Seacoast Nursing & Retirement Center, 292 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
