Born August 3, 1911 in Lee County, MS to James Henry and Ada Bell Hignite Grisham, Jewel, a retired business owner, passed away on June 1, 2008 at Yalobusha County Hospital. Jewel was married to Oughterson Jackson, (Jake) Gregory who preceded her in death in 2000. Jake and Jewel owned and operated Gregory’s Department Store on Main Street in Water Valley, MS for more than fifty years. Jewel was a member of First Baptist Church of Water Valley, MS and was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class.
Jewel was preceded in death by her parents and twelve siblings. She leaves a number of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Jewel’s many friends for the kindness and love shown to her. Special thanks go to her friend and doctor, Joe Walker, the hospital and nursing home staff, and to Jewel’s sitters, Marcy Dudley and her wonderful team who cared for and loved her. Jewel was blessed by the many visits of the church staff, Dr. Randy Bain, and Joe Davis. Several close friends, Curtis Berry, Rayford Edgar, John Crow, Paul Parker, Dr. Joe Walker, Harrison Cook, and Bill Norris will serve as honorary pallbearers.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS from 11 a.m. until the service begins at 12:00 noon. Internment will be in the Priceville Cemetery in Tupelo, MS at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to First Baptist Church, 800 Main Street, Water Valley, MS 38965.
