Lawrence K. Henneberry, 75 of Medway died June 1 in the Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Helen (Bullard) Henneberry.
Born in Medway, April 28, 1933, the son of the late John and Alice (Macko) Henneberry, Mr. Henneberry was a lifelong Medway resident.
Mr. Henneberry had wintered for the past 4 years in Punta Gorda, Florida and had had a summer house on Martha’s Vineyard for many years.
Mr. Henneberry was a 1951 graduate of Medway High School, where he was Co-Captain of the Football team and a member of the track and field team where he set many pole vault records.
Mr. Henneberry had worked for the New England Telephone Company and then Verizon for 35 years as an engineer.
Mr. Henneberry had been a member of the Medway Water Commission and the Call Fire Department.
He was a member of the Franklin Elks Club, the American Legion and Medway VFW Post 1526, of which he was past Commander and member of the honor guard. He was also past Allstate Commander of the VFW.
He was a member of the pioneers of America.
Mr. Henneberry loved to hunt, fish and be on his boat and he especially loved to engage in spirited debates with his grandson, Michael.
Mr. Henneberry served in the Navy during the Korean War on the USS Champlain. He was awarded the Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Henneberry of Medway and son, Lawrence Henneberry Jr. of Woonsocket, RI.
He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Wolf and her husband, John of Medway, John Henneberry and his wife, Mae of Narragansett, RI and James and his wife Betty Henneberry of Hopedale.
He is also survived his grandsons, Michael and Eric.
His funeral will be held on Friday, June 6 from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church in Medway at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will follow with full military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
