Donald Stephens, 83, of Irwin County, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11AM, Wednesday, June 4, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. David Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Paron Cemetery in Berrien County. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Stephens was born March 8, 1925 in Coolidge, Georgia to the late Charlie N. and Juanita Jenkins Stephens. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving a Purple Heart for wounds received while serving in Luxenburg. Mr. Stephens was retired from the Ben Hill County Sanitation Department. He was a former employee of Tifton Cotton Mill, and was a member of Anderson Memorial Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Nell Mitchell Stephens of Ocilla; his children, Patricia Maybie of Fitzgerald, Wayne Stephens and Pamela Stephens, both of Ocilla, and Linda Hollis of Moody, Alabama; 13 Grandchildren; Several Great-grandchildren and Great-Great grandchildren; 2 Sisters, Jeanette Cleghorn of Albany and Jewell Roberts of Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Benson, a grandson, Tony Stephens, 2 brothers and a sister.
