Donald J. “Sonny” Putignano, 72 years of Brockton died Saturday at Tufts Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Judith E. (Sampson) Putignano. He was born in Brockton the son of Josephine (DiStasi) Putignano of Hull and the late John Putignano. He was a graduate of BHS class of 1954 and also a 1957 graduate of Mass. Maritime Academy.
He was a retired proprietor of the Avon Towne House, a family owned restaurant where he had worked for over 30 years. He enjoyed all types of music, cooking, reading and sailboats. He loved the Boston Red Sox and N.E. Patriots.
He is survived by his five children, Lisa M. Foos and her husband Paul; Laurie A. Putignano; Dawn A. Burns and Jo A. Spillane and her husband David all of Brockton and John R. Putignano of North Carolina. He leaves 11 grandchildren Dominic, Danielle, Amanda, Gabrielle, Corinne, Christina, Anthony, John, Marissa, Gwenevere and Judith and 4 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister and two brothers Joanne Creedon of Florida; John L. Putignano of Middleboro; Michael J. Putignano of Hull and many nieces and nephews. He was the companion of Maureen Puffer of Brockton. Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 8 am.
