Sheila J. Simard, 64, of Edgewood St., Derry, died Tuesday, December 25, 2001, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Derry on December 9, 1937 a daughter of the late Edward and Marion (Soucy) Olesen and had been a lifelong resident of Derry. She was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, Class of 1955 and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Nashua, Class of 1958. She also graduated from New England College in 1985. She had been employed as a registered nurse at Alexander-Eastman Hospital and later Parkland Medical Center in Derry. She had also worked for Spindel Eye Associates in Derry for several years. Mrs. Simard loved to cook, and enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her husband, Armand J. Simard of Derry, one daugher Jane Kershaw of Derry, one son, Peter Simard of Hickory, NC, two grandchildren, Sean Kershaw, Kaycee Kershaw both of Derry, two sisters, Jean Prinzo of Johnston, RI, Patricia Madden of Derry, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Edward Olesen Jr.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 28th at 10:00 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Crystal Ave., Derry. The burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Londonderry. Friends may call at The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry on Thurdsday, December 27th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9.
