Anna H. Gatanti, 82, of South Portland, ME, died Friday, May 30, 2008 with her loving family by her side in the Maine Medical Center, Portland, ME. Mrs. Gatanti was born in Quincy, MA on October 7, 1925, a daughter of the late Charles and Sylvia (Cushing) Pike. She was a resident of South Portland for 6 years, formerly living in Derry, NH. Mrs. Gatanti grew up in Norwell, MA and graduated from Norwell High School. She was a homemaker who raised six children. She enjoyed gardening, canning, rug braiding and crossword puzzles. Mrs. Gatanti was a member of the South Shore Natural Science Center. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed traveling to see her children.
She is survived by her six children, Charles E. Gatanti of Laconia, NH, Barbara Long and her husband Dr. Ross Long of Conestoga, PA, Michael J. Gatanti of Londonderry, NH, Mark A. Gatanti and his wife Beverly of Ventura, CA, Steven P. Gatanti and his wife Diane of Whitman, MA, and Joanna L. Morrissey and her husband Cormac of Cape Elizabeth, ME, 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters, Sylvia Monroe of Montpelier, VT and Edith Raymond of Derry, NH and also by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Joseph John Gatanti, two brothers, Robert and Charles Pike and her sister, Alice Beloin.
Visiting hours were held Wednesday, June 4, 2008 from 9:00 to 11:00am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A funeral service followed at 12:00pm noon in the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Hood Rd., Derry. The burial followed in the Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry.
