Janet ( Howard ) Reardon, a longtime Stoughton resident, formerly of Boston and Halifax passed away after a brief illness on Monday May 26, 2008 at The Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 64 years old. She was the beloved wife of over 38 years to John B. Reardon. They were married on October 12, 1969 in The First Congregational Church in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Mrs. Reardon is also survived by her two loving daughters, Anne B. Reardon and Amy P. Reardon both of Stoughton and her brother Robert C. Howard Jr. of Norfolk, MA. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother Stephen Howard.
Mrs. Reardon was born with Emphysema on December 30, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts and was the cherished daughter of the late Winthrop Avery and Evelyn ( Phillips ) Reid. She attended East Bridgewater Public Schools and Stonehill College where she received her undergraduate degree in Accounting and later her Masters Degree in Taxation Accounting from Bentley College. She was very proud to have passed the CPA exam on her very first attempt. Mrs. Reardon was employed as a CPA specializing in Taxation Accounting for most of her working career and had worked for various accounting firms including the Louis Horowitz CPA office in Braintree, MA. She retired in 2004.
In 1991 Janet was the number 4 lung transplant recipient at Massachusetts General Hospital. Also, after 2 hip replacements and a kidney transplant at Massachusetts General Hospital, Janet always stated that “ Massachusetts General Hospital kept me alive all these years”, and often referred to herself as “ The Bionic Woman “.
Janet loved to read, travel and spend time with her family on Cape Cod. She attended and was an active member of The First Parish Universalist Church in Stoughton.
A memorial service to celebrate Janet’s life will be held on Saturday May 31, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in The First Parish Universalist Church, 790 Washington Street, Stoughton. The Reverend Jeffrey B. Symynkywicz, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to The American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, New York 10006 in Janet’s memory, would be appreciated.
