Virginia M. Dahlfred, 64, of Londonderry, NH, died Saturday, May 24, 2008 in the Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, NH after a brief battle with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Mrs. Dahlfred was born in New York City, NY on February 26, 1944, the youngest daughter of the late George and Victoria (Smith) Long. She was a resident of Londonderry since 1983, formerly living in Connecticut and New York City. Mrs. Dahlfred had worked for many years in the legal profession in New York City and later in New Hampshire, as a legal secretary and paralegal. In 2000 she became a full-time antiques dealer in partnership with her husband, John, primarily exhibiting at major antiques shows throughout the eastern United States. For the past six years she had been president of the Londonderry Historical Society, was a member of the Londonderry Heritage Commission, and actively advocated for historic preservation. She had also served on a number of local government boards and commissions. She enjoyed traveling to Europe with her husband to purchase inventory for their antiques business and for the pleasure of European travel. Her major passion was for her sons and grandson and the time they shared as a family. She will be remembered for her warmth, genuineness and her down to earth nature. She was a woman of vibrant and sincere faith, and was a member of the Londonderry Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, John Dahlfred of Londonderry, two sons, Karl V. Dahlfred and his wife Sun of Thailand, James A. Dahlfred of Beverly, MA, a grandson, Joshua R. Dahlfred of Thailand, a sister, Joyce Werntgen of Montpelier, VT, and also by three nephews.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday June 7, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Londonderry Presbyterian Church, 126 Pillsbury Rd., Londonderry. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to OMF International (Overseas Missionary Fellowship), 10 West Dry Creek Circle, Littleton, CO 80120, in support of missionaries Karl and Sun Dahlfred.
