Obituary

Margaret G. “Peggy” (Hoffman) Brine, age 95, a 46-year resident of Winchester, passed away on May 23, 2008. Born in Arlington in 1912, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret (McCrackin) Hoffman. An employee of the former J.H. Winn Watch Factory in town for 12 years, she was a well-known presence at the popular Saturday morning coffee at the Winchester Cooperative Bank, where she worked as a secretary for 31 years until her retirement in 2005. In her spare time, she enjoyed membership at the Second Congregational Church of Winchester and participated in the activities of the Couples Club there. She was the beloved wife of the late George S. Brine, and the loving mother of Robert G. Brine and his wife Diane of Groton, and the late Bonnie Jean Blondin. Peggy was also the dear sister of the late George Hoffman and the late Kathryn Scanlan. She was the devoted grandmother to Thalia and Daphne Brine, and the aunt of Jane Scanlan Serio, Paul Scanlan and Walter “Wally” Brine. Her Funeral Service will be held in the Second Congregational Church of Winchester, 475 Washington St., on Tuesday, May 27th at 10:00 AM. Relatives and Friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Monday from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peggy’s memory may be made to the “Foundation of the MEEI, Inc.” (Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary), designated for the Eddington Cochlear Research Fund, Attn: Development Office, 243 Charles St., Boston, MA 02114.
