Obituary

CHARLTON/WORCESTER – Donald J. Murphy, 77, of 322 Stafford Street in Charlton and Spofford Road in Worcester, died Monday, May 19, in Beth Israel Hospital, Boston.

He leaves a daughter, Donna A. Rainville of Warren; a son, Dana J. Murphy and his wife Elizabeth of Charlton; 5 grandchildren, Meagan, Ryan and Mallory Rainville and Michael and Matt Murphy; a brother, Barry Murphy of Biddeford, Maine; a special friend, Eleanore Akstin of Worcester; nephews and nieces. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first great grandson in June.

He was born in Boston and raised in Charlestown, son of John and Alice (Murphy) Murphy. He graduated from Boston English and attended Boston University. While in high school, he was the ball boy for the Boston Celtics. He lived in Quincy and then Northboro for many years. He lived in Charlton for the winter and Worcester for the summer for the last 10 years.

He served the Army National Guard from 1947 to 1951.

Mr. Murphy owned and operated American Management Insurance in both Marlboro and Clinton, and was not yet retired.

He enjoyed building models. He also helped form the Northboro Youth Hockey Program.

The funeral will be held Saturday, May 24, at noon in St. Joseph Church, 10 H. Putnam Road, Charlton. After cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are private. Instead of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to either the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Joseph Church, 10 H. Putnam Road, Charlton, MA 01507 or to the American Cancer Society, Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street. Webster, MA.
