Norwell / Calais, ME - Frances M. (Thomas) Sammer 85 of Norwell, MA and Calais, ME died unexpectedly Saturday May 17th. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred O. Sammer.
Born and raised in Calais, Maine she was the daughter of the late Dr. Kenneth and Hazel (Smith) Thomas.
She attended high school at the Netherwood Private Academy in Rothsay New Brunswick, Canada. She later attended Westbrook College in Westbrook, Maine and went on to receive her degree in Nutrition from Lesley College in Boston, MA. After graduation she worked as a dietician for the City of Boston for many years.
Although Frances was a resident of Norwell for 47 years, she maintained her life long residency in Calais, ME and was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church. She was also member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Rockland, MA.
She is survived by her son R. Wayne Sammer and his wife Patricia of Bailyville, ME, her daughters Christine Taylor of Bangor, ME and Brenda Durgin and her husband Daniel of Norwell, MA. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Leah Thomas and her brother Kenneth S. Thomas.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service to be held Saturday May 24th at 10 AM in the Calais Cemetery, Calais, Maine. Donations in her name may be made to the St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Box 988 Calais, ME 04619
