Obituary

Eileen M. Reardon, 81, of Brighton, Thursday, May 15th, after a short illness. Predeceased by her brothers William T. Reardon of Brookline, John A. Reardon of Cohasset, and sister Elizabeth R. Rodgers of Briarcliff Manor, NY. Survived by her sisters, Marguerite Ruth Castelli, formerly of Arlington, and Therese R. Hart, formerly of Yorktown Heights, NY. Favorite aunt of twenty-two nieces and nephews (including, locally, Elizabeth A. Rodgers of Watertown, William R. Rodgers of Newton Center, Ruth Moon of Shutesbury, Joseph Castelli of Lexington and Mary Castelli of Chichester, NH) and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Eileen grew up in Chestnut Hill, attended both Newton and Brighton High Schools and obtained degrees from Sargent and Wellesley Colleges. She taught physical education at Newton High School then turned to a successful real estate career, selling town homes in Beacon Hill and Back Bay at William A. Codman & Son, R.M. Bradley, Otis & Ahern, and Keating & Co. for two decades. She had a personal touch and many of her clients became friends.
A member of the University Club, Longwood Cricket Club and Brae Burn Country Club, Eileen played joyful and competitive tennis and golf, and loved the celebrations at the nineteenth hole or at her famous parties serving canapés on silver trophies. She adored her nieces and nephews, instilling in them a love of sports, a cynical view of politics, a fascination with the law, and a life-long model of loyalty. “To have a friend, you have to be a friend,” she often told us and always showed us. We will miss that gorgeous blonde, her infectious laugh, her swirling skirts and clinking charm bracelets. She called us “fabulous” or “rotten.” We knew they were synonyms.
At Eileen’s request, funeral and interment will be private. A memorial service will be held this summer. Friends wishing to attend or who wish to contribute stories celebrating her life, are asked to contact William R. Rodgers of 77 North Street, Newton Centre, MA 02459. Memorial gifts may be made to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 15 Mt. Carmel Rd., Danvers, MA 01923. www.lawlerfuneralhome.com
