Obituary

Charles D. Saulnier, 85, passed away on May 16th, 2008 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was born in Lynn on February 10th, 1923 to his parents Arthur and Rosanne (Doucette) Saulnier. He has been a resident of Stoneham for the past 7 years and is a former long time resident of Medford. For over 30 years, Charlie worked as a supervisor for the MBTA. During his tenure, he worked on the Blue Line and then transferred to the Orange Line at Wellington Station. Charles served in the United States Navy During World War II. He was a Senior Chief Petty Officer who served on ships and also served on Submarines, earning his dolphin insignia which enabled him to serve any function on a submarine. He is a member of the VFW in Medford, the Franco American War Veterans Association and the Fleet Veterans Association. After the war, Charlie remained in the Navy Reserves for 35 years. Before he moved to Stoneham, he was very active at Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden. He served as a member and past president of the Holy Name Society and as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a former Scout Leader for special needs children. Charles and his late wife Mary were foster parents to 21 children during their lifetime. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary E. (Flynn) Saulnier; the father of Carolyn E. Gentile and her late husband Anthony of Watertown, Christine Flynn Saulnier and her partner Michele Restino of Brimfield, Charles Saulnier II and his late wife Michele of Arlington, Mary Carla Ueki and her husband Gordon of Portland, Oregon, Charlene A. Saulnier and her partner John O'Leary of Medford, Robert Michael O’Connor of Wilmington and the late Luke Mullen; the grandfather of Rebecca, Jessica, Brandon, Laura and Michael; the great grandfather of Jordan and Joshua; and the brother of the late Peter Saulnier, Shirley Bourbeau and Doris Saulnier. Relatives & friends are invited to attend funeral services from the A.J. Breslin & Son Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden at Medford line on Tuesday May 20th at 8 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Patricks Church, 71 Central Street in Stoneham at 9 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday May 19th from 4-8 PM.
