WINDHAM, NH—Rita A. (Mahan) Clegg, 84 years old, a lifelong resident of Greater Lowell, died early Thursday May 15th, at the Ridgewood Center, in Bedford, NH. She was the wife of the late Alonzo W. Clegg, who died in 1999.
She was born in Lowell, on January 9, 1924, a daughter of the late James and Agnes (Caulkins) Mahan, and was a graduate of Lowell Public Schools.
Mrs. Clegg had been employed as an Assembler by the former Wang Labs, in Tewksbury for over 16 years, and previously worked as a hairdresser in the Lowell area. She was a communicant of St. William’s Church, in Tewksbury and enjoyed bowling, sewing and cooking.
Surviving her are two sons and daughters-in-law: Alonzo W. and Anne Clegg, Jr., of Manchester, NH; and John J. and Kathleen Clegg, of Hudson, NH; two daughters and one son-in-law: Linda W. Clegg., of Windham, NH; and Cynthia M. and Bruce Griffith, of Derry, NH; seven grandchildren: Alonzo W., and Colleen Clegg, III; Jeffrey T. Clegg; Allison, and Jason Benedict; Kelly, and Kenneth Burczynski; Alexander W. Griffith; Melinda J. Griffith; and Nicholas, and Michelle Gaiano; seven great-grandchildren: Alonzo W. Clegg, IV; Katie and Sarah Burczynski, Anna Clegg, Gabriel Benedict; and Andrew and David Gaiano.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday, May 18th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street (Rte. 38), Lowell. Her Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, May 19th, at 10 AM at ST. WILLIAM’S CHURCH, Tewksbury. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association; 311 Arsenal Street; Watertown, MA 02472.
