Effie Sprott, 93, of New York City died February 13, 2003 at the home of her cousin, Ruby Sprott after a long illness.
She was the daughter of the late George and Nellie (Miller) Sprott.
Miss Sprott was born in New Bedford and lived in New York City most of her life.
She was a member of the former Douglas AME Zion Church in New Bedford.
Miss Sprott was formerly employed by a candy factory in New York.
In her more healthy years she was a fighter for tenant's rights and was recognized by the Leadership Circle of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare for her support.
Survivors include her goddaughter, Eloise V. Pina of New Bedford, who was named by Miss Sprott, and several cousins.
She was the mother of the late Winston Sprott and the sister of the late Melvina Sprott, Blanche Sprott and George Sprott.
Her private graveside service was held yesterday in Rural Cemetery.
