Obituary: Taunton; Serafim L. Sousa, a resident of Taunton for 33 years, died on Thursday, May 15,2008 at his Davis Street home surrounded by his devoted and loving family. He was 89 years of age.
He was the husband of Maria S. Sousa. They had been married for 58 years.
Mr. Sousa was born in Flores, Azores, son of the late Antonio L. and Maria DeJesus (Freitas) Sousa. He was educated in Portugal. He was employed at Royce Aluminum as a fabricator for 8 years. He retired at age 65.
Mr. Sousa enjoyed gardening and fishing. He is survived by 2 sons; Jorge and Jose Sousa, and 1 daughter; Serafina Cardoso, all of Taunton.
He also leaves 2 brothers; David DeSousa of Taunton and Antonio DeSousa of Flores, Azores; also 2 sisters; Adelina Avelar of Lisbon, Portugal and Judith DeSousa of Taunton, and the late Maria Corvelo.
He also leaves 4 grandchildren: Paula, Sandy, Tianna, and Andrew; as well as 2 great grandchildren; Tyler and Kassidy.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, at 11:00 am. at the Taunton Funeral Home, 8 Crapo Street, just off Tremont Street.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 5-8 pm. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mayflower Hill Cemetery.
Donations in Mr. Sousa’s name can be made to the charity of ones choice.
