MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA: George Stewart Mollison, 91, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on May 7, 2008. He was the husband of the late Marie R. (Allaire) Mollison. They shared fifty-five years of marriage.
Born in Goshen, Massachusetts on March 27, 1917, he was the son of Stewart and Emeline (Tompkins) Mollison. He moved to Manchester in 1945 following service in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1955, he opened George S. Mollison Furniture and Flooring which he and his wife Marie operated until their retirement in 1981. He had also owned and operated the former Fuller Rug Service. He and Marie traveled widely throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. He greatly enjoyed being accompanied on his travels by his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan Wilenski, Martha Mollison, Marjorie Holmes, and Rebecca Lord and their spouses, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Esther Korowski, Ruth Dresser, and Lois Bacon and his brother, Charles Mollison. He was also predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth and brothers, James and Harold Mollison.
His funeral services were privately held in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Manchester-by-the-Sea.
