David M. Stockwell, age 48, of Neptune Drive, Mumford Cove Groton, passed away Sunday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London after being stricken at his home.
David was born on October 16,1959 to the late Carl V. and Helen H. Stockwell. He was a graduate of the Groton school system.
He was a past member of the Noank Volunteer Fire Department and loved being on the water in his boats. To his many friends on the amateur radio networks, he was known as N1PKS broadcasting from Groton, CT.
To his many friends in Mumford Cove, he was a fixture with a heart of gold and perpetual smile. He was always there on his golf cart ready to lend a hand, pump out a basement or clear a path. There wasn't a machine that David didn't want to take apart and very few that wouldn't go back together; and not a screw, nut, bolt or wire that wasn't worth saving because “you never know when you'll need it!” As he took his nightly walks, the residents of the cove, both young and old, came out to talk and pet the dogs. He was a fixture.
He is survived by brothers Carl of Milford, Peter (Lynn) of West Hartford, sister Sheri (Jim) Tudesco of Milford, his Aunt Helen Hlinka of Danforth, Tn and Cathy Hlinka of Solon, OH as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday from 3pm-5:45pm immediately followed by a service at 6pm.
In lieu of flowers, David's family asks that you consider a donation to the Groton Animal Shelter, 68 Groton Long Point Road, Groton CT 06340.
