
Alfred P. Baratta, age 84, of Woburn formerly of Somerville, died May 11th at the Lexington Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Rita (Bavelas). Born in Somerville he was the son of the late John and Mary (Valentine) Baratta.
Mr. Baratta was a retired purchasing manager for the W. R. Grace Company and was a member of their "Quarter Century Club". Prior to his working for the W. R. Grace Company, Mr. Baratta honorably served in the United States Navy during WWII. Mostly devoted to his family, Mr. Baratta enjoyed woodworking and spending the summers in Maine. He was also a member of the Arlington Retired Men’s Club.
In addition to his beloved wife Rita he is survived by his daughters, Karen Baratta of Somerville and her fiancé Brian Eberlin of Hopkinton, Alison Petrino and her husband John of Billerica. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Mandy Farhoodi, Nicholas and Jesse Petrino. He is further survived by his brothers John Baratta of Woburn and James Baratta of San Antonio, TX. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Baratta, and sisters, Irene Holmes and Eleanor Cantwell.
His funeral will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Wednesday, May 14th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church 138 Cambridge Rd. Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday, May 13th from 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Alfred's memory to the Children's Hospital Oncology Unit Fund, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115.
