Caroline “Carrie” Helvaty, 98, of Fitzgerald, died Saturday, May 10 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home in Fitzgerald.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Helvaty was born August 29, 1909 in Long Branch, New Jersey to the late Ralph and Magdaline Houtts Rose. She worked as a weaver at the Long Branch silk mill where she met her husband Joseph. They married in 1941 and had two children. She lived most of her life in the same house she was born in until 1990 when she moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She had lived in the Fitzgerald community for the past four years.
Carrie was an accomplished piano player and loved to sing in her wonderful soprano voice. Music and melody remained an integral part of her life. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Long Branch.
Mrs. Helvaty is survived by her children: Joyce (Darrell) Young of Great Falls, Montana and Joseph (Mary) Helvaty of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Laurence Desmond, Jr. of Long Branch, New Jersey, Lauren Attanasio of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, and Joyce Desmond of Colorado Springs, Colorado; as well as three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph John Helvaty and her sister: Marie Barbara Torchia.
