TEWKSBURY - Yolanda "Yollie" (Mustone) Luongo, age 81, a well known member of the
Tewksbury community, died Saturday morning May 10, at her Tewksbury home, surrounded by
her family, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Cosmo "Cosie"
Luongo, who died on February 1, 2003.
She was born in Boston, on February 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Samuel and Carmine
(D'Ambrosio) Mustone. She was raised in the Boston's North End, but moved to Tewksbury in
1961.
She began her career at the Federal Reserve Bank on State Street in Boston, and later retired as
the administrator for the Town of Tewksbury's Veteran's Department. She also worked the Voting
Polls for district 1 and 1A at the D.P.W. building throughout her life.
She was active in the community as a member of St. William's Parish and the Blessed Virgin
Sodality at St. William's. She was active in the Tewksbury-Wilmington Italian Club, a Tewksbury
Red Hatter, a frequent visitor to the Tewksbury Senior Drop-In Center, and a member of the
Tewksbury Golden Age Club. She was also a volunteer at the Saints Medical Center's flower
shop for many years, and spent countless hours with her friends at area nursing homes,
especially the Blaire House of Tewksbury, and Tewksbury Hospital.
She will be remembered for her constant smile, jubilant and effervescent personality, and ability
to become a friend to anyone after having met only once.
She is survived by seven children and their spouses, Desiree Luongo and Ronald Mailhot of
Manchester, NH, Teresa Luongo and Joseph Palmisano of Methuen, Cosmo Luongo Jr. of
Lowell, Arthur Luongo and LuAnne of Tewksbury, Mark Luongo and Beth Sheehan of Tewksbury,
Paul Luongo of Tewksbury and Joseph Luongo of South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Nicole
Kotzias of Lawrence, Jessica Chandler and Lisa Chandler of Lowell, Danielle Kotzias and Arthur
Pesaturo both of Manchester, NH, Drake Luongo and Jake Luongo both of Tewksbury, Jackie
Thibedeau and Holly Shannon both of Tewksbury; four great grandchildren, Felicia, Victoria,
Dylan, and Aalyiah; a brother and sisters-in-law, Roger and Lillian Mustone of West Roxbury,
Mary Mustone of Malden, Janine Mustone of VA, Angie Mustone of CT; sister-in-law and brother-
in-law, Nancy and Zachary Natale of Boston; numerous nieces and nephews; and her dearest
friend, Adeline Morello of Tewksbury.
She was also sister of the late Dominic, Teresa, Albert, Amando, Gloria, Orlando, and George
Mustone, and sister-in-law of the late Nora Mustone.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated
Wednesday May 14, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the M.G.H.. Cancer Center, Center for Melanoma, Yawkey Building-Suite
9E, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114, will be appreciated.
