
Mr. Howard Winthrop Phillips, Jr., beloved husband of Frances E. (French) Phillips, died at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on Thursday, May 8, 2008. He was 84 years old.
Born in Swampscott, Massachusetts, on April 3, 1924, he was the beloved son of the late Howard W., Sr. and Dorothy E. (Hall) Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a successful businessman, President of Bowers, Scipione & Phillips in Newton. He was a very proud Mason and Shriner for many years and was Past Master of the Sagamore Lodge of Medford. As an artist, he painted in oils, pastels and charcoal and was a makeup artist as well. He loved to travel to Scotland, Wales and especially England and he dreamed of going back. In his spare time, Mr. Phillips enjoyed gardening in his yard.
Besides his beloved wife, Frances, he will be sorely missed by one son and one daughter-in-law; Howard W., III and his wife Debbie Phillips of Medford, one daughter and one son-in-law; Laurie J. Phillips-Stanley and her husband Thomas W. Stanley of Medford, two sisters; Claire Cunningham of Beverly and Patricia Scott of Long Island, N.Y. and five cherished and adored grandchildren; Jessica and John Phillips and Julia, Emily and Samantha Stanley, all of Medford. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Monday, May 12, 2008, at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended.
