James Spafford Holmes, 84, Clarksville, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Gateway Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Monday at Neal-Tarpley Chapel with Brother Louie Montoya officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10 am until the hour of the service Monday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born March 8, 1924 in Wilkinsburg, PA son of the late Arch Holmes and Katherine Moffet Holmes. Mr. Holmes was a retired Major of the US Army and served during WWII and Korea. He was a dispatcher for the Montgomery County Veterans Association Transportation Van. He was also a private pilot and taught math and science at Montgomery Christian Academy. He was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife Janet Holmes, two daughters, Margaret Ann Proctor and Lenore Lee Duncan all of Clarksville and a sister Lillian O'Neal of Columbus, OH. He was a very proud grandfather of five and extremely proud to be a great-grandpa of six. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Allen Holmes.
