Belva M. Santos, 85, formerly of New London, died Tuesday evening at the Groton Regency after an extended illness.
She was born in New Bedford, MA on March 18, 1917, the daughter of Oscar Frechette and Lovianna (Guertin) Baggs
She was formerly married to Anthony Santos and lived in Norwich where she was President of the R.V.A.A. and enjoyed working for veterans and visiting veteran hospitals.
She served 3 terms as President of the Germania Lodge, was a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbus, a member of the Companions of the Forest, Past president of the Lafayette Club, and a Life Member of the Women of the Moose.
Belva loved music and sang in the Laurelaires, the women’s group of the Barbershoppers.
She was the longtime companion of Faust Pierfederici. She is survived by her daughter, Louise S. Kahler and granddaughter, Laura A. Kahler, both of Stonington.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday at l:00pm. There are no visiting hours. Burial will be private in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich.
